    G'Day Col,
I have been looking into the idea of an alloy trailer for a new boat (coming to see you on Saturday) is the cost feeseable and do you build them, or would you know anyone to recommend. The idea is to have no rollers, just teflon skids in a slight v shape, would this support your hull satisfactrolly.

    Cheers.

    Re: Fisha Bit'n

Antics, we are having the exact same concept built by Belco trailers only ours isnt alluminium. there are four long skids which run 3/4 up the trailer in a V shape. the new boat has only sat on it and needs to be adjusted yet. one reason we went for skids (we also went for parralell flanged channel) is because it eliminates over 200 rust points. cant wait. have a talk to Ryan at Belco trailers.

Thanks Crazy, I was thinking of the cross members built in the v shape (covered in teflon) to suit the hull and support the keel as well as skids to hold the boat upright although not carrying any weight. Is this the same concept? What sort of boat are you getting it built for? I may end up with a Fisher.

    Re: Fisha Bit'n

Antics, from what im interpreting i dont think that idea will work as having the skids running opposite directions to the hull it will cause the boat to not slide properly on and off the trailer. i have posted some pics of ours to show our concept. the trailer is not yet finished as when the boat goes on it it has to get centering braces put inbetween the outer and inner skids. four of these will be placed on roughly 2 at the back ad 2 mid way down the trailer. this helps when driving on the boat that if u miss the centre of the 2 inner skids that it will hit these centering braces and right itself. is this what you mean?? The trailer is for a 6.8 metre Fisher. im not sure if any of that makes sense but it is hard to explain it without it being infront of me. take a look at the pics and see what you think.

the picture with red lines is roughly where the centering skids will go.

    cheers

    Re: Fisha Bit'n

Crazy, I have stolen the idea from F&B's Plate Alloy #3 article on Alloy trailers, they used it successfully for their "Dusty Rover" 7+ meter Cairns Custom Craft. I think your trailer may be an improvement though. Are the guys at Fisher happy with the supports not being directly on the keel?
Thanks for the pics, unfortunately I don't have any pics of the trailer idea I was trying to explain.

    Re: Fisha Bit'n

Antics, I havent had a look in the mag yet but i wil ltake a look. the boys at Fisher have not really commented yet as the boat has only sat on the trailer once so its hard to say. i think Col is fine with it. the skids actually provide much more support for the boat as each roller on a roller trailer only gives and 50mm of support as with the skids give support to the whole underneath of the boat.

    Col_s,

I passed this boat this morning on my way to the train
It was on it's way to Bribie, would have been a great morning to head out.
    Is the owner on here?
If he ever needs a deckie, I'm on the way to the water!
    What an awesome looking unit.

    Cheers.
