    Lake Lenthall UPDATE

I have just been appointed as a Ranger at Lake Lenthall and thought I would give everyone a heads up as to what is happening out there.

    For Everyones Information -

Camping is not permitted at Lake Lenthall. However camping facilities are available at the nearby Wongi Water Holes managed & run by the EPA and QPWS.

You do require a Stocked Impoundment Permit ( SIP ) to fish lake Lenthall.

QBFP & Police will be conducting patrols of Lake Lenthall.

Dogs are permitted at Lake Lenthall.

Visitiors having boats with motors that do not comply with the current restrictions are not allowed through the access gates.

The Lake Lenthall access and boating restrictions we have been given are as follows -

The gate is open and manned by Security between the hours of 6:00am and 4:00pm 7 days per week. Access to Lake Lenthall outside these hours is not permitted.

Currently there are fuel-power boat restrictions on the Lake.

    The restrictions are -

    # Maximum six ( 6 ) horse power engine size.

    # Maximum four ( 4 ) knots speed limit.

    # Boats with motors larger than six ( 6 ) horse power but which also have an electric motor are NOT exempt unless the outboard motor is completely removed.

    # These arrangements will continue until all construction work on both the dam raising and recreational improvements are complete. At that point of time it is intended to have a permanent Ranger residing on site.

This policy allows for fishermen and boat users to enjoy Lake Lenthall without compromising water quality or safety as opposed to eliminating recreational use of the dam.

    Cheers
    James

All sounds reasonable except the gate closing at 4.00pm.
That kind of destroys any afternoon sessions which is a real shame.

Yes Pistol_P that is a real shame, I feel for ya.
I on the other hand I'm still waiting for a reply from the water board,(7 weeks now). I asked if I can access the dam with no fuel tank and the propeller removed from my bolted on 40hp 2st, just using my electric but it appears from James's post that is unecceptable as I would be compromising water quality or perhaps safety.
BTW congrats on your appointment James, I know from reading your posts that you have a real passion for Lenthalls and I'm sure you'll do a great job.

Thanks for the info James, had heard some rumours to that effect but wasn't 100% sure. Nice to know what the deal is, shame though as I won't be back with the no engine rule in place. I have a leccy but it's to much hard yakka to remove the yammy for a few trips a year. I'll be trying my luck somewhere else. Good luck with the new position. Cheers Matt

Big Unit, I hear a rumour there were other Rangers appointed as well? And the Positions are Temporary?

If so - Whats the go, will permanent appointments be made after the works are complete? Who are the other Rangers?

There are two other Rangers who are members here, I was leaving it up to them to say who they are, if they want too.

As for the rest of the details - I do not discuss or disclose my business dealings on a website forum.

Sounds like I need to find another place to fish . No problem, I just hope its the same rules for everyone, and not just for some
I hope that next year when the ABT Pro's show up they are made to take their motors off too.
May I also say that many fisho's want to go to Lenthalls because of the coverage given in the ABT tournaments.
Lots and Lots of other places to fish other than the Marybough council area.

Sorry did not mean to intrude, I thought you were either volunteers or employee's, not subbies. I'll have to pump my mate in Wide Bay Water for better info next time!

In any event, good on you for putting your hand up. Having people with an interest in fishing as part of the management team is a lot more useful than faceless water beureaucrats who cant see the potential of water storages beyond making tap water!

    Hi Big_Unit,
I know these questions has probably been asked elsewhere but I can't recall seeing them.
Do you know the anticipated completion date for the works on the dam?
Has the Council given any indication as to when a decision will be made on the new rules and when they will come into force?
Lastly, is there any indication when/if the dam will be opened up so far as access hours are concerned?

June 30th is the expected completion but that may be extended if need be.

WBWC Board of directors meets next month, hopefully I will have some news for all if they come to a final decision.

June 30th should see more open access depending on the new regulations.

    Cheers
