boat sizes
Hows it going all just a quick question, what size boats do people take to the reefs on the eastern side of Morten and what size fuel tanks are you running off?
I currently have a 5.6m Trailcraft sports cab with a 120L fuel tank.
cheers

Re: boat sizes
dunno about there exactly, but it would seem you have a boat capable (if you can drive it) that can handle that sort of area and distance.

Re: boat sizes
Russell, pick your days and you should have no trouble with that boat and fuel loading. I'm assuming you have a 4 stroke?

Re: boat sizes
Thats a good honest setup for fishing those areas, if its not a 4 stroke, take an extra 25L of fuel in case the weather turns bad as back up. Log in with the coast guard before leaving. If your a novice leave nothing to chance, safety gear, weather forcast, sea sick tablets. Enjoy yourself its a nice part of the world ...foxy

Re: boat sizes
I have a 5.3m Mustang with honda 90hp and 80L tank. Regularly fish these areas, but take 25L spare fuel tank and try to pick good days. Take 50L extra if trolling.
Mate has a 4.6m ctr console with 50hp and goes to these areas all the time too.
On a good day, your boat would be fine.

Re: boat sizes
Russ,
Depends on where you leave from.
Bribie to fish around the Cape or Deep Tempest no problems.
Pinkenba to Deep Tempest around the Cape take a spare jerry can just in case the weather turns nasty.
I have a 5.2m C/C Formosa 90 Merc 2srtk 115ltr tank.
Have fished shallow Tempest from Pinkenba on a good day used about 80ltrs

Re: boat sizes
Hi again Russ.
I'm running a Mercruiser 3.4 220 on a Whittley Sea Legend 6.5 and a trip to Shallow Tempest from Nudgee runs out at about 120 litres. The trip from scarby is shorter but I find my run from nudgee is easier on the deckie and kids 'cause it doesn't cross any shallows.
I've yet to come back from the eastern side and not have the bay lump up on me with the resulting slowing of pace and extra fuel consumption, so carry a bit extra just in case. You shouldn't have any probs with your rig.
Seeya out there.
