Joining braid to mono ... this is new or is it ?

When bottom bashing that is exactly what I do. I tie a bimini twist in 50 pound braid and attach to swivel with a locked blood knot. Then tie 80 pound mono on the other side of the swivel using a locked blood knot or a uni knot.

Its very dangerous to use braid without a decent length of mono wind on leader. Nothing worse than catching something bigger than expected and trying to control it next to the boat and holding a handful of braid. It will cut your hands to shreds.

Use at least a rod length and a half of braid, and up to twice that or more.

A double uni knot will run through your guides (lumpy but will run through). An Albright knot will put the tag of the knot in a more favourable position for running throught he guides, but albrights tend to slip.

Improved allbright knot is a bit better, but a double uni won't come undone.

All a balancing act.

I use the same as you and have not had any bust off's, use a triple blood knot on the braid and a uni knot on the Mono, 50lb braid with 100lb jinkai.

I used to use a swivel and use a blood knot on both mono and braid. If thr triple you refre to means that you loop the line around the swivel three time before you start the knot proper the it's the same as i used to use. On one forum Geoff Wilson, the knot book author replied saying that that knot was the strongest he had tested but he had concerns about the braid cutting into itself.

I now use a bimini twist on the braid jpined to a GT knot. The GT knot is one used by the Sambo jiggers in WA and it doesn't let go. It can be used from 6 pound upwards. Persist with learning the Bimini but get someone to show you, it really is simple.

i use a standard albright knot, not the improved albright knot, it gives a smaller knot with just as much strength, ideal for casting, and a lot easier to tie.

So if i tied braid onto a swivel using a uni knot or blood knot, would that be ok?

Or could you suggest better knots for braid onto swivels?

For my connection it is an albright with a tiny spot of superglue near the tag end and they never slip. Only takes an extra 5 secs to put a dab on it and let it sink in.
Usually you have to either tie another jig or thread on a new bait or soft plastic.

Mostly when i have breakages these days it is nowhere near a knot.

If i ever use a swivel it is always as close as possible to the bait because that is where your twist will always be generated. Occasionally if im having problems with twist i will open the eye of the hook/jig and close in a small swivel with breaking strain as close to the weight of the leader as possible, the smaller the swivel the more efficient it will be.

hey rumy1...
we normally dont use a swivel we just connect the braid to mono with the albright knot which works really good. thats for heavier fish like trout and lipper but i dont know how it will go with flathead and bream and all those kinda fish..
it is also good when throwing lures!!!

I've stopped using the albright as I found it fouled the braid now and then when casting.
I now use the "Slim Beauty", easy to tie and much much better to cast as it tapers down and goes through the guides much easier when casting.
Strong too.
