Re: anyone been to somerset lately
Hey mate,
we have been up there twice in the last few weeks and have done alright each time. Most fish came on Jackals in natural colours just on a slow roll type retrieve. Some big schools of fish on the bank straight infront of the boat ramp (ie opposite the hump/island - think they call it the 'bay of plenty'). Also a lot of fish on the steeper banks closer to the dam wall.
We got a lot of smaller fish in the 30-35cm range, but also a few big fellas at 54cm to the fork. Also 2 big silver perch and a yella all on jackals.
We also tried up Queen st and around red rock and pelican point but did no good.
Hope it helps. TWB

I'll backup what TWB said. Alot of bass north of The Spit area. Look for around 25 feet (that's where I found a stack of em last week).
Also a good school off the northern side of The Spit as well.
Best for us was a slow hop of plastics across bottom & when we saw them arching up on the sounder, burn through em.
In saying that, the more folks that hit them there the sooner the schools will breakup & move on & get lure shy to a "Hot" technique or specific lure.
Hope that helps,
Fitzy..
