my choice would be head out to dungog and theres sorta a suburb but not really cuz it country anyways its called fostern loop head down there anywhere along the river know as williams river you should pick up a few bass on soft plastics and poppers...if all fails head down to the old bridge and chuck a spinner bait and softies and u should for sure pick up a bass. iv been going down there for 20 years to see grandparents so i know it like the back of my hand.keep to the deep washouts after the rappids and edge of deep weed beds
The Pareson Rivers also good for Bass/Perch, and not as far as Williams River/Dungog is from the wneries at Cessnock.
You coud head up to Glenborn Dam, bass and yellow belly, but I'm guessing you'll be shore bound.
As far as Trout are conserned you have to head up to the Barrington Forrest areas at least. Distance from Winneries to there may not be worth the effort.
Upper Hunter is supposed to be ok for bass/perch, but I have never given it ago.
Your main problem is Cessnock.
It was built in the middle of nowhere and is still nowhere, no water no nothing.
Good luck with it.
Rob
thanks rob - wasnt actually too worried whether we actually end up fishing all that close to cessnock its self - but the missus wanted to do the wineries in the hunterv alley area - so anywhere within a few hours drive form there isnt such a bad thing as it means we would get to see a bit more of the countryside
