What length?

What length game rods does everyone prefer to use 1.68m, 1.82m or 1.98m. Also would you prefer full roller guides or just the tip roller guide?

You talking light game or heavy game?

For light game 8-10 kg I use 5'6" to 6' rods, no roller guides or tips.
I am just an occasional game fisher tho.

If your going light tackle to 10kg then I use roller guides, Afto light weights. I have been building rods for as long as I have been game fishing, 20 years +. Fuji ring guides are fine but I have fished for to long to know that if a guide ring cracks that’s it for the day. If your roller guide should play up then it’s a 1 minute job to take the roller out and slip a new one in. Many people hate roller guides because they simply haven’t looked after theirs or they are using inferior copies. Like any thing that moves, rollers and so on it will require oil at some stage.

As for the length of rods that all depends on style, fish your targeting, weight line and so on. Again light rods to 10kg should be fished on 6ft rods for the simple resone you can pick up more line than that of 5’6”. When you get into the heavier stuff like 15 and 24kg then you should aim for a length of 5’4”. 37kg line class is in a league all of its own, here you need to aim for 5’0” as an over all length.
