Question How to Catch a Trevally from the shore in Brissy River?

    Lads

I am dead keen on catching a Trevally from the shore in the Brissy River...

It seems they will be around in the colder months?

How do I catch one? I have a 6ft 6 estuary, about to put 9lb braid on it for some better strength...

other than that I am clueless!

    BIg questions are:

    where is the best spot

    what bait

    what rig

    what tide etc...

    need some help boys....

Try the Brekkie Ck.As for all your questions needing answer,I would love to help but sometimes you need just to have a go yourself firstn and then if no success express it so and more may be inclined to help.
In saying that look for structure like rocks jettiies pylons ect.I use live bait myself and as far as tides go - well I have sat for 18 hrs to find out when and what bites.
As i said ,have a go and if you do with no luck I will give you a couple of spots to try,but you have to try to help yourself first,as that's how a lot of us figured stuff out.Cheers.

Thanks very much for you help....

I have been having a few cracks at Breaky CReek.... especially around the beacon in the park off Kingsford Smith.... a couple of bream and a few very large hook-ups but getting busted off in the rocks...

Appreciate your comments regarding having a go first....

Not much success at the moment, and I'm not convinced I am running the right set-up.... I have got a cats net but haven't really had a decent crack at using it... Is the boat ramp in breaky creek at pretty good spot to pick up some herring or mullet? I imagine it must be as good as anywhere...

been running a pretty long leader to keep the bait out of the mud and up into the current... seems to have done away with the tiddlers attacking the bait all the time.....

The live bait will be the key to success... just have to work how to throw the bloody cast net!

    Thanks again

    Hey,
I have caught one trevally from the brisbane river.. Did a report on it a while back. I got it on a small hardbody that i was using to target bream. I've had a few friends catch some but there hasnt been any real consistency to em. I got mine fishing along the banks off the kingsford smith.

    Cheers

Supercharlie,if you throw your net at that boatramp at Brekky at high tide you will get nice poddies and a few herring there.I have caught Trevs 2kg up the ck and have a few spots that fish them regularly but they are smaller fish between 20-30cm.I assume that the beacon of the park you are referring to would be Cameron's rocks. You get good fish from there if you get your tides right.Big bust offs to the rocks could be anything there.Best of luck.

Re: How to Catch a Trevally from the shore in Brissy River?

Just another thought.I prefer to fish very light 6-10lb main line and use a 30lb trace about 50cm long.I also use as little amount of lead as possible, and if you are fishing from cameron's may mean casting up current and retreiving it as it goes past ,as the tide rips past there. This does mean more work but your keeping the bait in the strike zone as opposed to it being hard up against the rocks 50 metres down stream from you.As they say -opinions are like ass%^les,every-one has one.Cheers.

Send Fishphile a PM mate. He's landed a few up that way and is always keen for some company on his outings. Good luck.

    charlie,

I am telling you, you need to put in a bait trap and catch the shrimp/prawn things and throw them out live with no weight.

I rekon your on the money at that becon we talked about and if your getting bust offs then you know that they are there...

Do you ever see them feeding? like busting up the surface chasing bait?

Re: How to Catch a Trevally from the shore in Brissy River?

Anything is possable but I don't like your chances. Over the last 5 years of fishing the Brizzie for bream I've only caught 2 or 3 trevs and they were only 20cm long.
    Good luck though.
    Mike
