Re: what will you chase in winter (sportfishos)

Up here in Sunny Townsville I had a ball last winter catching Grunter off the rocks with the odd hairtail as well. Hoping to get into some nice whiting this year as well as the GT

I'm with Dazza, anything that swims. Haven't fished enough up here, (Yeppoon Area), to know what to target. Mainly looking for reefies as I love a good feed of fish. Anyone care to fill me in on the main species up here during the winter?

Well the Blue Marlin should be around in numbers till early june( with any luck) and can be caught right through winter so that should sort out the sport fishing out!! as for meat fish well that's an entirly differant game!!

B_E_N, im down on the clarence. The schools are already moving in now.
Tie a fly that imitates a bunch of green weed and drift it as you would normally fishing for them. Ive ever seen it used with a float and slaughter them
Fly rod + Fat blackfish = Ammmmmazing fight

    Hmmmmm......

Dart and Bream.... If this morning's haul off the breakwall at Tallebudgera's anything to go by, then so far so good.

FYI: Caught on a 3.5m beach rod, eggbeater reel, live yabbies, 12lb line (BCF, Surecatch "Power" to be precise), #3 ball sinker, dark swivel, 1m trace ending with a Mustad long shank #4 baitholder hook, loaded with a frrrrresch live yabby ....

Got there 6:15am Sat. morn, (31 Mar), by 9am the bites were starting to get rather scarce.... I think the top of the tide was around 7am, perhaps 7;30am.

Yummy yummy, fresh fish for dinner for a couple of days !!!!!

Fingers crossed for a repeat tomorrow morning, there's freeezer space looking for fish
