New motor for Sanity
Hi to you all , after years of top service it is time ti replace the outboard . sanity is 5.5 half cab with a fair bit a weight , all up ready for a three day trip outside around 850 to 950 Kg . At the moment she has a 115 johnson 1976 V4 . she runs at 12 to 16 ltr an hour
What would be a good motor for her , she dry stable and sound fiber glass hull .

Re: New motor for Sanity
Pogo your current engine is flywheel HP rated so has approx the same get up and go as a more modern 90hp 2 stroke 4cylinder (say 85model onwards), if you buy these more modern carb or EFI 115s you will be happy with the extra get up and go but based on your fuel figures you will use a fair bit more fuel, a modern high tech engine either dfi 2st or 4st in 115hp will bring you closer to the same economy but the 4st will have around the same performance as your old engine.
It's a juggling act and depends I guess how happy you were with that good old girl.
cheers fnq

Re: New motor for Sanity
It sounds like your motor is the cousin of my '76 115Hp Evinrude.
My tilt/trim is playing up, and rather than throw good money after bad - I think I will go the new motor route.
Perhaps we can start a new artificial reef with the old OMCs.
I need something a bit lighter too, as my boat sags in the bum a bit with 115HP, twin batteries, fuel tanks etc, all down at the business end of the boat.
Especially as the hull is only rated to 85 Hp.
Ahhh, the joys of buying a second-hand boat.

Re: New motor for Sanity
kind of thinking a 140HP 4 stroke may be a tad on the heavy side (maybe)
