    Harries overnighter number2

Made it out to harries fri arvo and stayed till sat morn. Couldn't raise anything legal for hours, then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, massive cuta rippin line off the new overhead. Almost had him worn out after a good 15min fight, then twang. Frustration!!!! Then a couple of showers came through to top it off.

By morning we had run out of fresh bait, landed one good squire about 47cm on a half pillie using a paternoster rig drifting.
Then the light came out and then out with the plastics. Done around 15 drifts, and managed atleast one hookup per drift.
Got a motherinlaw, cod and 10cm flattie, and 4 squire (one was only 36cm so he went back). IN the end it took a lot of effort to get the feed, but each trip i have out in the bay things get better, or we learn something different.

Thinking of heading over to curtain or that area. Would it be achievable with a 4.2 stessco catcher rv 40tohatsu. Where are the prime targets

    thanks

You got a feed and if your knowledge base is improving that's a bonus. Well done for persisting mate.

I'm far from knowledgeable in the bay but just a few general things I've learned.

If you're thinking of going over, then pick your days well, plan to go early and come back early before the onshores pick up. The summer winds can be pretty localised and not accounted for in general weather f'casts. Plan to return when it isn't wind against tide also.

With regards to targets, have a rod rigged with a slug in case you encounter surface activity on your way over. If you're passing the 4 beacons try jigging slugs in the area. There's a variety of bread and butter fish in the sandhills area, shark and shovellies at shark spit as well as ome reefies on the spoil grounds, and if you try Curtin, rig your anchor so it trips or you risk losing it. Also, pick your state of tide, it rips through there in full flow. Your best knowledge will come from trying different areas yourself away from the madding crowds.

I have had a few of those at Harry's - at least two or three times every trip. Don't they send the pulse racing?!! Fantastic!!!

Have never landed one yet but that experience is what makes me persist at Harry's when generally, I don't catch enough there to bother ever going back.

I assume that they are big noahs or big rays. Sometimes they wrap me around the reef or my anchor and sometimes they just are unstoppable but the heart test they give you when they rocket away is awesome.

Should of pulled em out earlier. they work just as good in the dark. Thats when alot of your bigger fish will be actively feeding. Give it a go next time, you might be pleasantly surprized.

Well good to see Harry's still firing
Yeah those's big ZZZZZZZZ's have be home to some big Cod and Sharks
just have too gear up bit bigger so you can stop the big runs & still have some line left on the rod
Don't boogdude &Charleville worry you's will end up landing the big one there

In life, start off wrong and you'll finish wrong. Put just one skeleton in the closet and you'll have to put another one in to hide the first, and so it goes.
But start off right and you'll finish right. There's no comeback when you stick to the truth - and no skeletons!
