Thread: Pectoral Fin Removal Crackdown

Thumbs down Re: Pectoral Fin Removal Crackdown

Seems to me the reason most fishos ignore the rules (regarding finning) is because it is stupid. Just another stupid, hard to understand rule to make it less and less enjoyable.

Any idiot who is going to blackmarket fish is going to do so as fillets.....what is finning going to achieve? Answer NOTHING.

Does this mean we have to fin a fusalear (regulated finfish..WTF) before we use them as livies for spanish?

This is a stupid rule, drawn up by idiot bureaucracts who have probably never been fishing in their lives and are intent on making fishing more of a stress than a relaxation........and don't mention bagging the guts again!! Plant that seed into fertile ground and you just never know.

I consider myself fairly well versed in regulations and obviuosly need to follow them. The TFPQ chair getting busted for fishing infringments would not sit well on our party CV, yet I have, in the heat of a good bite, not finned fish till things calmed down. I also work in the fish business & know damn well any black fish doing the rounds, and there is not much I have heard of, despite keeping my ear to the ground, is as fillets.

If this was about stopping black marketing I could understand it. It's not. Its about more bloody rules, for the sake of more bloody rules

Makes the photo more complete if you show the side where the fin isn't cut off and remember you only have to cut one off not both of them.

Oh dear I can just see the headlines following an outcry from the greenies, "Fisherpeople cut fins off live fish prior to dropping them in an esky to suffocate."

My deckie likes to keep a tally of what he catches. He cuts on the right side, I do mine on the left. My deckie regularily forgets to cut the fins on his fish so I have to do it - on the left side of course

Likke others I don't understand what the regs achieve but comply as the aggro isn't worth it. I always have a pair of $2.50 crazy clarks scissors on the bait board for this purpose. Have tried putting a couple of fins on the hook as a lure instead of tossing them overboard as they are so colourful but caught nothing to date - idea is probably as silly as cutting them off in the first place.
