Fuel Consumption?????
Hey guys,
I own a 5.5m stingray plate boat. I have a 1998 115hp Johnson v4 2 stroke on the back. My question is how much fuel roughly does everyone use when the do a trip to Morten and back?? I have done a few trips now fom Bribie and seem to use nearly a full tank. My tank is supposed to be 120l. Does this sound the norm??? My last trip I left Bribie and went as far as Hutchies, then for a quick look at curtins then back to Bribie at about 4000rpm. Probably used a little more than 3/4 of a 120l tank?

Re: Fuel Consumption?????
only way to tell with any acuracy is to fill it to the top, do a trip (enginr running time as well as distance) and then fill it up when you get home, done!! easy as, you can guess and say that a mate has a so and so and uses x amount, but we are all different, we have different boats, different loads, different ways of driving and different uses so get your own "fuel figures" and be done with it, a litres per hour overall is handy as well as litres per K because sometimes you may troll for 5 hours but only go a few K's.

Re: Fuel Consumption?????
We run a 6m Stingray with a 140hp V4 Johnson 2 stroke. Not sure what year model it is but would be late 80's early 90's. A round trip of around 80km offshore (no trolling) will use 100 - 115 litres depending on conditions. The boat is heavily loaded with normally 4 on board and 300 litres of underfloor fuel. Hope this helps.

Re: Fuel Consumption?????
i have a whitley 6.3m and a 175 johnson (2000) and it uses around 1l per 1km running at 4000-4500rpm. each fishing trip i use around 150-180l of fuel and that gets me from bribie to hutchies wide cal nth, wide cal south and back down the coast to bribie withe some troling inbetween.
hope that helps you oun

Re: Fuel Consumption?????
next time you go out take a portable fuel tank with say 10 litres of fuel in it . Stop when you get out of the harbour hook it up to your motor and set your g.p.s up
and take distance and time and get the boat up on the plane at your normal
cruising speed and go till you run out of fuel and then just work out what your
fuel usage is per/mile ,, per hour . my 2 stroke 75 uses a litre a mile, 25 litres an hour at 25 mile per hour sounds a lot but its 28 litres to mud and back on a 28 mile round trip this is an accurate way .most 2 stroke outboards over 70 horse use
25 to 28 litres an hour the bigger they get the more they use an hours travel
covers alot of ground

Zig Zag- I took my brand new rig, Yalta 5.35m with 115 Yammy 2s. for it's first run yesterday. I put 50l. in and cruised around at various speeds ( breaking in new motor) I covered 30k's and I reckon I used about 1 litre per k.
