there is no real "Science" to this, the manufactirer just recomends what will be best for their own design based on the amount of wraps (glass and the taper and so on, some are sort of in "code" in the balnk model, a really simple one was the old JS980, it was JS = jig stick (taper) 9 = 9 wraps 80 = 80 inches long, but some manufactures of complete built rods just give advice on what it is suited to, and sometimes this can be way off as far as the user goes, but is still a guide
