Hi people, was just wondering, if you were going to buy a couple of these lures, which would you buy. Will be targeting bass in the local dams and probably some saltwater work now and again. Any help would be great. CHEERS woody.

Probably just poppers steve, but Im open for suggestions. I want to get a nice range of lures for dam work and Im not to sure where to start. Last time out I broke in my first bought TN 60 Jackell, First cast straight on the bank wound in a bit hit the water and all hell breaks loose, bloody lure didn,t even sink much, so I thought how cool would it be if I had a couple of surface lures to cast around if that's the action your gunna get. Normally Im a bait man, but want to get into lures and Sp's aswell. Any help would be great. CHEERS woody
Thanks for the reply westy1, will check them out. CHEERS woody
Have a look at Owner Zippin Ziggy's. Great walk the dog action and boh Bass and Barra love them. Also, I've been using River 2 Sea Bubble n Pop 65's of late. Had a great stick by a toga at Lake MacDonald this morning. Launched itself 2 foot out of the water. Pity the hooks didn't stick though. Can use both in the brine as well.

River 2 Sea Buble pops are good value in popers.
I also Like the TT CicadaII. Litle plastic wings that fold flat when you cast and plopand walk reaaaaal nice on the surface.
Also dont knock back the old faitful jitterbugs
Cheers

tailer made surface breakers are my fav surface lure for bass got a 47cm wild river bass on one yesterday otherwise slider grubs 1/8 nitro jigheads with beetle spins
NOjacks
For a popper I have to agree the River2sea poppers are little gems.
Also worth getting a walk bait. My favourate is hte eddy's surface buster though, the lucky craft sammy65 look like they would be sweet(double the price however)!
My two most successful surface lures are however, jitterbugs (both jointed and standard and taylor made surface breakers!
Have to agree with Pete and Billyboy. If your gonna grab 2 surface lures, make it a cup faced popper and a walker. As mentioned the ziggy's are alright, but if you happen to see a Sugoi quick bee in you travels definitely grab one. They have been discontinued for some reason, but are fantastic. Gobo's are excellent as far as small poppers go. Easy to control the amount of pop, whether it be big noisy bloops, or subtler skipping spits (for want of a better description). They can be walked enticingly too, especially if using mono leader rather than fluro.
Jitterbugs, crazy crawlers, tiny & teeny torpedoes, and tong poppers.
For the lucky ones, throw in floppies with the bib on the shallow setting.

Hi woody,
You've been given some hard choices already,With some great lures mentioned. Some advice with regards to trying some other styles of topwaters should also be seriously considered.
As well as the already mentioned poppers you should maybe have a look at the Rebel Pop R,And the Rapala Skitter Pop.A little older than the others,But still very effective. There are also some very nice Japanese numbers available if ya don't mind spending a bit more cash.Be sure to check out the Sugoi Splash II,Megabass Pop X,And the Lucky craft Keroll. These are also excellent lures.
Be carefull m8.......Top water fishing is VERY addictive.

The underlying spirit of angling,Is that the skill of the angler,Is pitted against the instinct and strength of the fish,And that the latter is entitled to an even chance for his life. Regards, Hardb8.Kickin tails and razin scales since 1979.
This is a link to a good article from sweetwater fishing about surface luring for bass that might help you with techniques and what style of lure to choose.
