    Surf fish

Went for a fish in the surf yesterday.Found a suitable gutter after a bit of searching. When i got down the beach to the gutter i found it had a big ball of bait in it.I piffed my worm bait out near this and hooked into a big dart as soon as it hit the water. This continued for 2-3 hours as the dart continued to feed on the bait ball.Ended up catching 50 odd big dart on the light gear.Top fun.Kep a dozen for a feed.Sorry no pics Bit to sandy and wet.

    Re: Surf fish

Yeah dart are good fun - especially the bigger ones. I find the little ones a bit pesky sometimes. I usually get them at Wurtulla beach on sunshine coast. Doesn't seem to matter what tide - they just come on a bit before sunset and last about 1/2 an hour. I have found if I continue to fish as it goes dark I usually get a good size shovel nose. The last time I was there I picked up some really good bream.

I guarantee you would've caught those dart on little metal slice lures......when they're feeding on bait fish like that they really whack the lures!! So much fun on light gear!!!
    Man I love dart!

Hey Blooey, how big were the Dart? I've only ever caught small ones (10-20cm)

    Cheers, Mick.

    Re: Surf fish

I love Dart - they hit hard and fast and good fun.

Sunday morning, off the breakwall, Beach Side, Tallebudgera
    1 x Blackfish, 8 x Dart
all caught on live yabbies. Mate of mine was getting a few off the breakwall at Currumbin too. Nice clear water, you can see schools of them come and go, cast into 'em and BAM! Quick-as-a-flash. About an hour either side of the tide worked best. As the tide dropped (2 hours off the top of the high, little whiting annoyed the hell outta me and the bigger dart seemed to have departed and gone somewhere else...)
