Hello fishos,
This morning i came across a school of10-12 800mm-1m long GHs playing in the entrance to a creek on run out tide, they were there long enough 4 me 2 throw every popper, hardbody, plastic and slug at them had them look at a small smith lure vut no hits just wondering if any1 has any hints on lures and retreives to help me hook up to 1 of these feight trains?
My favourite flies (easy to tie and use) would be Crazy Charlies or Deceivers.
White through the body with a few strand of crystal flash and a bit of red, pink or yellow over the top. Proven fish takers for me.
Caught on a 3inch electric chicken snapback on a 3/4 jighead in the bay. They do go hard. From memory these were a bit deeper though in about 5-6 metres.
Go the fly.If you dont have a fly rod you can take the rear trebble off your popper or stickbait and tie your fly to it on a length of mono. Not quite as effective but it works.
Just a thought.....they look more like Milkfish to me. From the pic they look to fat for a Giant Herring. Have seen them in similar situations on the Gold Coast doing the same thing. A small bread fly would be the way to go if this is the case.
While walking the dog over at the beach on tuesday and saw a large school of giant herring in about1-1.5m of water they were feeding on some small silver baitfish.Milkfish are heavier built than the herring. Both go of when hooked and get into some aerial acrobatics.I've got the herring on live baits[small herring]and have hooked into milkfish on a whiting hook with a flouro green rubber worm.I don't know if any of this helps.
