Thread: Shark bitten fish

    Re: Shark bitten fish

    OZtrav,
whats to say that someone caught one and just cut it up a bit to hide the fact
That's what he 2 cm extra bit is to deal with. If you break a fish's (both) rakers fromt he throat, the fish lays flatter on the ruler and so could be either something that a fisherman did to get his hook out, or could be a trick to get it "over the line". I just don't know if it's a fishery rule or club rule is all.

Breaking it's throat isn't the only way to get extra length from ya fish, but they all required mauling the fish in some manner, dis-locating the neck from the skeleton etc..

I really don't know if it's a fishery rule, but surely if the fish has been clerly biten in half, it'd be a tough bastard that fined you for keeping it, although I'm with the earlier comment, it feels "weird" to eat one that's been chomped somehow. Especially as wild as that one was, but just the thought I suppose.

I tried breaking a fish's throat fromt he rakers, and it did ge an extra couple cms, so it's queit reasonable.

    cheers
    rob

I was more talkin about ol mate chopping of it tail etc and doing a crap job rather than stretching the fishing to get a few cms

I rekon waste not want not. The fish is ###### anyway .
if you can eat it eat it, if you dont want to strip it up as bait, and if its that messed up once you bring it do your best to cube it up and use it for burley... ( although that not really a good idea if your on a good patch with a good show biringing good fish up... you might not want to attract more sharks
