    Bream Rod & Reel Combo

I have a Shogun Light spin rod matched with a Daiwa Procyon 3i 2000 spooled with 4lb Fireline and a 8lb leader. I use this combo for lure and soft plastic fishing for Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Redfin. I was just wondering would a combo like that be alright for Bream lure fishing and soft plastic fishing? I don't want to spend no more than $150-200 dollars.

I have made a lil list. I just wanted to know which one out of that should I get?

    RODS
    Shimano Starlo Stix Extreme 2pc 6’6” 2-4kg 3-12g
    StrudWick SicStik SIC661S2 2pc 6’6” 1-3kg 1-4g

    REELS
    Daiwa Regal Xi 1500-2000
    Penn Applause 1000-2000
    Shimano Sahara 1500
    Shimano Sedona 25000FB

    Wyld Fisher,
I do not use either of the rods mentioned so cannot comment on those, but i do use PENN applause reels in both 2000 and 4000 size for bream/bass/cod/yellowbelly/flathead etc and cannot find a reason to fault these. This is just my oppinion and others may have reasons for the other suggestions but i would recommend the penn applause reel.

I have first hand experience and have heard that the after sales service and repairs for Strudwick is woeful. As a result I would not buy one again but other than that i think every thing else you listed there would work nicely.

Are there any other rods that would go nice on Bream?

what you already have would be fine. No need to get another combo when the one you have will................I can't believe i just said that

I've reckon the applause is a well built reel, although i think they are a bit heavy. the sedona 1000/1500 is a popular choice for a starting kit. Light graphite body and reasonable drag. Good quality too.

Strudwick Sic sticks are nice enough rods. Not so sure about the starlo Stix. they look cheap.Go up to a raider for a better quality rod. I don't place much on the warranty speil for any of these rods. It's too easy for a manufacturer to say its your own fault. If you have problems, you take it back to the place of purchase with a reciept and take your luck.

    cheers, roo.
