Wink Mud and the soft plastic bit

Ok i have given in and bought some SP , following the trend...my question is...are we talking a drift and jig style, or cast and retrive "working" the plastic...why is ask is i had a go the other day with a 5foot ugly stick baitcaster setup, its great for for flicking lures at targets , put i reckon i needed more distance the other day when in 6 mt of water (thats were we were drifting and getting hits all the time on squid)..i was thinking a spin outfit would get a bit of extra distance on the cast , and thereby get extra time working the SP near the bottom....i like the baitcaster outfit because the rod is a bit stiffer (was custom built out of a longer blank cut down)so it has a good hookup action...or sould i use the likes of one of my 7 foot light action softer uglys with a penn spin setup............sad attempt to justify buying a new rod i think...

I use a 7 foot E.Grell rod, it is a one piece 2-4 kg rod matched to a Daiwa sol 2000 spinning reel loaded with 6 pound fireline and a rod length of 12 pound flurocarbon leader. This combo has landed snapper upto 72cm and 4 kg. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg but a graphite rod, braid and a reel with a decent drag are all needed when a good snapper eats your plastic. You are best off to drift and cast ahead as far as you can and jig-hop your plastic back to the boat, keep your jighead as light as possible to make it look more realistic. As for the ugly stics, they are a great bait fishing rod but i am yet to see one suitable for sp fishing.
    Good luck

Thats what i was after, i think the uglys may be a bit "soft" in teh tip and not give the plastic a quick flicking action when the tip is worked.....ive always been an ugly person (have 7 of them)...but i was thinking of going out to get a rod that had a bit stiffer tip....realwise...id probely get another pen liveliner...lovely drag on them
