    planeing speed

    hi all
    would like to no at what is the min speed your boat is doing before it falls off the plane, all boat sizes from glass to plate and polly boats, smooth waters will be fine, was just a Q that was brought up over a few beers on Saturday night, thanks

    Mustang 18ft glass. about 25kph will stay on, so I suppose just a bit less than that.

    very broad question there, it depends on so many factors to be of any real benefit, unless you are going to buy a boat and want (for some reason) the slowest planing boat available.

    Signature 492F out the hole at around 19mph, falls back in it around 21 Mph.

    Little tiny tinny starts planing about 14km/hr and don't know drop off speed. Never really noticed.
    The only reason I know this is when I have 3 people on board it has to make a huge effort to get on the plane. I've spent a bit of time fine tuning the engine height and trim and experimented with a few foil designs and shapes and sizes. Maybe I should just start ripping some of the 'extras' off the lighten the load a smidge. Or go to Jenny Craig.
    Bigger boat never really taken note either. I just open the throttle and up it pops and then pull the throttle back and the boat drops off.
