Advanced New Ship built by Austal for US Navy

With all the talk of which hull is best,mono or shark cat style,it is interesting that the US Nayy's latest is nearer to an Eagleray hull.

Are the Eagleray underated or does the design suit bigger ships?

The US Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is a new generation high speed warship designed to carry out a range of operations including mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare and the prosecution of surface attack craft in the near-shore (littoral) environment.


Austal is the vessel designer and builder for the General Dynamics Team which is one of two consortiums selected by the US Navy.


The platform chosen by the team is Austal's fast trimaran design which provides enhanced seakeeping, low resistance, superior aviation facilities and large payload carrying capacity.

An to think Len Field failed to gain support for similar designs based on the work done with Sunderland Flying Boats during WWII, something about being too far advanced for the time, like this was 1944 but 60 years on things are revolutionary (again).

Kerry,Len or Leon,father and son??.I remember the younger scaring 10 years life outter me on the pin bar in a hydrofield about 30 years ago.

Tracker, Len was the father, way before Leon's time, had a lot to do with what made Sunderland Flying Boats actually leave the water and fly, that thing looks very similar to a flying boat, hey?

You are correct,it is more like the Hydrofield.
Still begs the question.Why are there so few small boats of this design?
