Are there Tripple-tail on the gold coast? from Surfers to Ballina? acording to the books they inhabit this region but i have never come accross any? anyone have any ideas?
Have spotted a lot of small ones (15-20cm) in some of the canals I fish in the Nerang over the las 4-6 weeks, there is not as many now as earlier (4 weeks ago) when you would see 6-7 for a mornings fishing. Have not found any larger one but they must be around somewhere.
Cheers Ian
Up north around CQ Triple Tails are caught usually around the mouths of rivers and creeks using live bait such as prawns and mullet. They are also known as Jumping Cod. They reach good sizes and fight and cook up well. A real bonus that is usually a by-catch while fishing for Barra or King Salmon.
Grants reckon that they only extend as far south as the Noosa River but going by the above posts they are on the move.
We get the occasianal one up the creeks here but if we really target them the go is to check the inshore channel markers on calm mornings in late summer (now) with small live poddies.
