    Jewies on poppers

This jew season, I am going to attempt to get some on poppers. Has anyone out there tried this and has anyone out there caught some? What lures would you suggest? Any hints, tips etc. Thanks, Sean

Mate I nailed one a couple of years ago,but it was a flook. I was using a homemade one off and with a wayward cast I landed on a bommie, with a couple flicks of the rod I got the popper off only to be smashed by a schoolie

I reckon if you figured it out you could get them quite regularly, I just don't think anyone would try too hard.

Alot of guys in northern NSW use poppers to catch mulloway. Might be a good idea to track down Darren Borg in Yamba/Iluka - he makes his own poppers and they work.

    Re: Jewies on poppers

We use them around the walls and rocks in the washes
Have caught 3 on poppers and a few more on surface running divers.
They werent huge fish (8-12kg) but they hit it fairly hard. Seemed to just drop from the surface to their mouth.
Theres a new lure i want to try, its a river to sea swimming plastic that runs as a popper. Looks exactly like a mullet
    Will see how it goes

p.s dizzy is out of the tackle scene. He went bankrupt and now builds boats instead.
Got himself too deep in the brown stuff with alot of locals, sending ppl after fish that hadnt showed up, etc etc

    Re: Jewies on poppers

Yeh the shops still there but is run by a lady, not real helpful but she does the best she can.
I was using big roosta poppers in the gold, homemade jobs that had a little bit of a paintjob underneath. Was doing a slow, continuous, "Blood bloop, pause, fast direct pull, repeat"
It will probably be easier to try on hardbodies first, because from wat ive gathered, there's not as large or consistent numbers of jew around, unless you're hitting the seawalls.
Have seen them hit nearly anything so if they're looking at it, chances are they'll hit it.
the thing to remember with jew is that they WILL eat most things, live, wooden, dead or frozen.
While fresh and live baits, and large soft plastics or divers work BETTER, if you place it right, then you're in with a chance.
You'll find once you can catch them regularly on bait in a particular spot on a particular tide and moon phase that nearly anything you put in that area at the time will get hit within a shortened time period.
I know right now, with this rain, that on the bottom of the tide a section of the breakwall, there is a 20-40min period where if there are any jew there, they will eat, If not ill pack up and leave.
Its not easy and i still cant beat the 15kg mark, but working on it.

What do people think of this popper? Do you think these slim style of popper is a good start or do you think that the fatter ones would be better.....I am heading to Tweed tommorw night so I might give it a crack. Sean
