    Question Barwon Banks 80m line

    Gents;
    I have often seen articles,shows & threads about fishing around the 80m depth out on the B-Banks to wide Caloundra.
    I fish the banks & have tried the 80m line but without luck.
    Questions.
    what can you expect to see on sounder, ie drop offs/ ledges of X mts.
    What is so good about the 80-90m depth as opposed to top of B-banks.
    What is your experience/opinion of plastics at this depth.
    Anchor or Drift.
    Any info would be appreciated, especially at this time of year as the Snapper + pearlies, AJ's + Cobia seem to be caught at this depth more so than 40-50mts.
    note: I have a Furuno LS6100 sounder, I run it in manual.

    Snap, as you maybe aware, the area you refer to is more then 10 nautical miles long and depths vary usually gradually from roughly 75 meters to well over 100.
    There is distinct ridges and rises in this area, but there is alot of barron almost desert like country as well. Im sure no-one is going to give out any of there spot x's in this area. I have several small spots that i wont even venture near unless theres no boats around or the weathers rough so no radars ping me.
    Current is more an issue as well and days that are favourable fishing on the banks maybe unfishable that bit further east.
    Your sounder may do the job in cappable hands but it is not ideal for that area and a more powerful unit would be a wise investment.
    The most common species in this deeper water are pearlies, with snapper and AJ's etc so plastics do work well when conditions are favourable.
    Finding productive spots is not as easy as it is with prominent reef systems and only hours and days of sounding and experimenting will achieve results ...foxy

    Hey snapp, Foxy is dead right on the areas he is talkin about they are very hard areas to fish sucsessfull, i fished the 80m line on the middle to the northern end of the barwons late last winter . if the moon and tide phases were wrong it would be hard day. with some days in that area we would get a bite period for 1 hr and then a complete shut down. we fished large soft plastic and baits with good results .If u like u can pm me and i can give u a few details that may help u in ur next venture.
