    Re: Bustard head

Friends of mine who camped in that area used Jennylynd Creek.... Sorry if the spellings is incorrect.

Jennylynd is just on the southern side of Bustard Head, there maybe fresh water available in there.

My friends would camp in there for about two weeks at a time, they would take everything in there by boat from 1770, I have no idea regarding vehicle access & I havn't heard of any, however there is vehicle access to Bustard. Maybe if you contacted Parks & Wildlife, a lot of that area is part of the Eurimbula National Park.

Back to the JennyLynd thingo, if you ever contemplate the idea, do check the tides as Jenny is hard to access on anything but a making tide. No boat ramps that I know of.

Another option is Pancake Creek.. on the northern side of Bustard magic spot. I think you can access by 4WD, boat is ok on any tide. No camping facilities.

Hope that give you a starting point.

Prety sure you'll find that the gate on the other side of the pancake creek crossing/fording is kept locked,if you did find it unlocked (has never been my experience) you would have to be prepared to drive through at least knee deep salt water.I also think that the only way to get there now is around the back of the Middle creek turn off sign on the Eurimbula track as the log bridge on the Turkey Station/Light House power pole track has been washed away.

    Re: Bustard head

As Banshee said, the gate at Pancake is locked and the bridge from Turkey beach end is out. To get around the bridge you have to get the tide right and even then you will have to drive through about 1/2 meter of salt water. Problem is by the time the tide is high enough to get back to the Pancake causeway in the boat then its to high to drive back out and around the bridge.
You can get through by car from Middle Creek but the track is not so good for towing a boat. Would recomend a winch of some sort if there has been any rain.
You can also launch at Middle and go through by boat but its a long way and very small and windy with a couple wrong turns along the way. Has to be high tide to get through.

    Re: Bustard head

Might see ya up there bunjie. I am planning a ' reckie ' to Pancake via Eurimbula NP by 4 x 4. I will have details of accessibility to locked gates soon.

Although the bridge is out, the track through the NP is Ok for towing a boat ( tinnie ), but to be done with caution, as stated above, after rain it can be an issue.

    Re: Bustard head

From Bundaberg/Miriamvale heading towards Agnes Water turn left into Eurimbla N.P.
After several km's of dirt road ~12km's I think you get the intersection to either Bustard Beach/Camp ground or left to Middle Creek Camp ground. Right no prob.'s, Left to M.C is tide and rain dependant. Saying that, I prefer M.C with elevated and riverside campsites and controlled open wood fires the go for BBQ. Both sites have toilets.
You are limited to 10km/h driving down to the sites with winding and densly vegetated forestation which is magic.
You can tow a SMALL boat however it is single track and if you encounter an oncoming vehicle it will gaurantee a headache. I have seen people launching tinnies on the basic 'ramp'. Truly beautiful down there, enjoy!
