    Question Catching Jelly Prawns

    Hi Ausfishers,
I'm planning a trip down to the Nerang River later in the week. Can someone let me know where I can locate jelly prawns - apparently they're deadly for big whiting. Oh, and also where are the best yabby banks - are there any in the Nerang. Its a bit cheaper digging than buying from tackle shops

    Big whiting??? WHERE ?!?!?!?!?

Being a Nerang local, I've scouted out that river quite a bit, can't help u with the jelly prawns, but as far as yabby banks are concerned, buggered if I know. Maybe around Chevron Island and Budds Beach, but I didn't see all too many holes, therefore they're probably not that plentiful.

My favourite spot for them yabbies is the Tallebudgera Creek, take the West Burleigh Exit, go into Tallebudgera Creek Rd, and just a few yards up the road and across from the West Burleigh Post office there's a park and car parking space, and a footbridge that takes you across tally creek.

Downstream from there is where I always get a decent haul of nippers !

Now you know, where can I catch some decent flathead around here ??

Thanks for the heads up on the yabbies, Rogersto - bit further than I wanted to travel so I think I'll slip down the Logan and dig a few there. As far as catching flatties in the Nerang goes - your guess is as good as mine. Try the Broadwater near Wave Break Island or just before the rock wall starts on the south side of the Seaway.

    hey tangles,
use the search function and put in jelly prawns, all posts. there have been a few few posts that are relevant. Also do a search on whiting, nerang river and you will get some info( there are loads of big whiting(32- 40cm jobs) in the river but it is best fished from a boat at night using wriggler or blood worms although beach worms(and jelly prawns)also work.
If you have no boat you can still get a few yabbies on the broadwater. Park at charis seafoods opposite the Grand Hotel and walk north towards Runaway Bay at low tide, you will get enough for bait(look for the holes in the sand) but not huge amounts. The best beds are out in the broadwater or at Coombabah Ck( you can wade across to the yabby bed at low tide when the tide allows).

    Tangles & Rogersto,

there are plenty of big whiting in the Nerang, it's been closed to netting for years.

There's plenty of yabby banks around the broadwater, but worms are a great bait too - ya just gotta learn how to catch 'em.

Here's a few biggies from the weekend just gone.

Roger as for Flatties, go off any bank in the nerang or in the broadwater.
