what size boat, how far do you want to travel?
For a start, try around Old Woman Is. You will find some good country around there and some washes. Few trevally and mackeral around there. About 5 km or so North of Pt Cartwright.

"The underlying spirit of angling is that the skill of the angler is pitted against the instinct and strength of the fish and the latter is entitled to an even chance for it's life."

Apathy is the enemy
Hi, i've been fishing the sunny coast for a while but i too was a newby to the area before ausfish so it was a bit tougher to get a starting point. All I did was buy a GPS book from a tackle store and it had GPS marks for all the most popular spots as well as what is caught there. Every trip you do a bit of exploring and find a couple of new marks, takes time but it worked for me,and good sounder will beat a general GPS mark anyway I believe as sometimes they're there, and othertimes......... good luck
I agree with No Fear - buy a book. They are not necessarily expensive, if you don't have much money go to a 2nd book store.
I'd also troll through the off-shore reports for the area and see what people are catching and where - with what bait, rig, lure or plastic. PM guys that seem to know what they are doing and ask a few good questions. Most people here are pretty generous with their knowledge.
Get a decent sounder for your boat and you should be able to find structure and fish with it.
A look at google earth should give you a few good ideas. This will show areas of shallow reef.
Or possibly the quickest option would be to go out on a Saturday morning and look at where other boats are fishing. Be respectful and keep a bit of distance between you and other boats as this can be a pretty quick way to annoy people.

Brownies coast watch is also a pretty good resource

If you head to the Outer Gneerings and sound about you will find quite a few lumps with fish. I find the whole area fished pretty well if you get out early enough. Outer Gneering marks are in the above-mentioned books and not too far out.
