    PB squire

Yet another weekend spent fishing for squire off victoria point, this time in much nicer conditions than the last few weeks. Chris's mate dave was along for the fish too. I'd bought myself a new reel last week and was keen to give it a go. Diawa Cy 3000 spooled with some super thin sufix 10lb, to go on my shimano rack raider. Thanks to roger for the reel too.

Well it didn't let me down, nice and light, a dream to cast, 6kg drag, very nice!! But the thing that put the biggest smile on my face was the 2kg's of berkley munching squire that it dragged in. At 54.5cms on the lie detector, it's still putting a smile on my dial typing this now. A personal best for me, and it beat the boat record my brother set only a few days previously by 1.5cms . Big thanks to him for his netting though! Cheers bro! Dave caught the only other keepers for the remainder of the weekend though! He got two 40's and a 36 cm squire on the saturday, plus another 36 on sunday when we went over to Peel. Around the south west rocks sunday morning, I caught a little black tipped reef shark on a plastic.

Thanks for the replies guys, it put up a great fight. The initial hit and run is a blast, those ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's are a sweet sound! The previous w/e I hooked up to one that scared the crap out of me, I had been talking to chris when it hit so hard it pulled my arm right down to point at the water, when i lifted, the reel started making a hell of a noise and the end of the rod was a blur. It ran and shook maybe 3 times, then I had it coming back to the boat when it decided to dive and run again, this time finding something to bust me off with. 10lb braid 16lb leader, lasted no more than a minute. I had to sit down for 5 because I was shaking so much. What a monstering! The pb fish gave an account of itself that pales in comparison to that hook up. Roll on winter!!!
