Sids last day before 60
Traveled back home to Rocky on Thursday to surprise the old fella for his 60th. No big fancy party or anything..just some fishing.
The weather has been very ordinary this weekend. So we planned to hit the creeks at Port Alma for some crabbing and fishing. The main channel of the Fitzroy is very fresh so that was definitely not an option.
Crabbing started off slow with nothing but big fat females crunching up the baits. The 25knt sth easter didn't help fishing with trouble getting a good anchor position. About lunch time the run in the creek was working more in our favour and we fished a nice drain with some live prawn and mullet. Wasn't long before the rods were bending.
Ended up with 5 threadies and 5 muddies. Lost a couple of big threadies that chewed through the trace. They were working right up in shallow. Many times we spotted them carving up prawns with backs out of the water. Tried to get one on artificial, both hard and soft but no luck. Was too shallow. A small 3" popper would have been handy but didn't have one.
That was a great end to dad's 6th decade and he will be spending tomorrow enjoy mud crab, salmon and a few coldies for his birthday.

Good to see you still thinking of your dad for his birthday. By the looks of the catch it turned out quite a present. Well done and happy birthday to your Dad.
