Headed out about 4.30am to the Rous Channel with my 11 year old son for a bit of spottie chasing.
Relatively quiet early on, though there was plenty of birdsign and the occasional boils of baitfish being smashed.
We were cruising along when my son points to the sounder and says, "Look at that dad!" .... BIG showing of baitfish about midwater so out go the rods and its time to hang on and pray
My son is used to catching bream, whiting and flathead, so I thought it would be fun to see how he handled a decent spottie on his 4kg bream gear.
When he finally got it to the boat, it took two attempts to net because it was too bloody big to fit into the net properly.
Needless to say, after hearing that zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I think he's hooked on mackeral fishing
