Went out yesterday 23/2/07 as we were sick of waiting for good weather. The withdrawals were setting in
Anyways it was suppose to be morning showers clearing(never did trust those weather reports), so we decided it was time to get out and target some more Tuna in Moreton Bay.
Went back to the NW3 as that is where they were on the 6/2 but with no success as there was no bait, no birds and no apparent activity.
Recently we have had some stronger SE winds. Usually what happens is that the fish and bait move into the direction of the wind. With this little bit of knowledge we decided to head over to the main shipping channel off Moreton Island. Got to the M3 beacon and found the bait again along with a few single feeding longtail.
As usual we had The BeaR S10-H rigged up with Soft-Plastics.The plastics we used this time were Bass Assassin 4.5" twitch in Albino/firetail, and the Atomic 3' minnow in th pearl white/light blue.
It turned out not to be a particularly nice day when it came to weather. It poured off and on all day. This didn't seem to effect the fish.
A word of advise, always double check your knots when fishing for these fish, as the first hook-up for the day was a beauty of a fish but the knot let go at the jighead. This was quickly rectified.
The first fish boated was a nice 16kg speciman that took 15 minutes to get to the boat. Within 30 minutes, the second one, a 13.1kg fish was hooked, in the boat, photographed and released.
By now the rain had started again, we were happy with our success, so we decided to call it a day.
Looking forward to another round.
Fantastic. Those LT's go so hard. Up until recently when I caught my first AJ I thought that nothing could fight harder than those LT's. The 15kg one I am holding in my picture gallery took a while to come in. I thought I was well and truly outgunned because it didn't know when to quit. Well done on your catch.
Hi Andrew...
Still got a couple of feeds left, so these were all released. We try and get all our fish to the boat as quick as possible so they can be released in good condition to fight another day.
Poodroo...
Nothing beats the first run of a Longtail and the second and the third....
but the joy of the longtail is that it is easily accessible to those with smaller boats that can't get outside.
LT's are like little eveready's, never say die.... they fight you all the way. I'm sure if they had legs they would stand up and fight you even when they were in the boat. .
Great fun.
They aren't schooling as such yet......but certainly enough big fish to target them. All of our fish are coming from choosing the correct soft-plastic, and a specific cast and retrieve technique.
Top work Eric despite the conditions!! I still havent gotten that s10 wet yet - waiting for the right opportunity and some kinder weather. Keep scratching my itch!
