Thread: In search Of New Ground - What fish is this?

Re: In search Of New Ground - What fish is this?

Geez guys, it might be a different story if the boys had landed a couple of chinaman fish or groper.

    But they didn't.

Nothing illegal was done and they're aware of no-take species. This isn't one of them.

Isn't having to eat one of the things punishment enough?

    Good luck,
    Mike

Just wait until we dig the spurs in Tim. Yes those Giant Herring were exciting. One launched itself out of the water and snapped Scalem off in mid-air. Wish I had a movie camera to capture it.

surely a big handful of coriander and chilli could turn them into edible fish cakes? I'm pretty sure none of the "mincer" fisho's wouldn't throw them back. perhaps it is an acquired taste

I actually consider this type of thing on a par with taking undersize/over bag limits catches. There are no excuses.

By the same token as your post - There will always be cowboys who struggle to get a feed and subsequently justify in their owns minds that taking everything that hits the deck is OK

Greg, I have never met these two, but i have read a lot of posts/ reports from Scalem and Poodroo, and I have got a pretty good idea about the kind of blokes they are. I feel that we can be pretty sure that these kind of guys aren't guilty of the cowboy antics that we hear about from time to time. Jeez, we all make a mistake now and then, but what have they got to apologise for????
    Nothing!

Let's forget the warm fuzzy politically correct bulldust that gets painted around and deal with the real issue - they brought home two legal fish that don't taste very nice.

I really don't like seeing a fish go to waste, but instead of giving them the "oh, i would never do that, how terrible", garb, I propose to do it the aussie way. i.e. bloody laugh. It would have been much more fun to tell 'em they taste great, THEN have a giggle when they came back asking how they should have cooked it. Get my drift?
I just don't see the point in jumping down the throat of two guys who didn't realise the situation. we live, we learn. that's not criminal, its commendable.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.
