I have been on holidays for 2 weeks and today is the first chance i have had to get out to Mud Island, been very busy due to the birth of my son "Kobi" and the wind has not stopped, until today . It was a late start with me sleeping in until 4.40am, anyway by the time i got to Pinkenba boat ramp it was 5.40, i quickly dropped the pots out and nailed it across to Mud. The bay was not to lumpy, i was out there fairly quick. When i arrived at Mud i did a bit of cruzing around watching the sounder for bait, before long i found a big show of bait holding close to the bottom, i marked it on the gps then i went a bit passed it and set up for a drift.
First cast and i set the rod in the holder, as i was putting a plastic on my other rod and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................zz zzzzzzzzzz after a few more zzzz up comes a 55cm squire . I was thinking this is going to be a great day . The next drift i got a few touches and then i got smashed on the drop zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... thump, thump zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i new this was a good snapper. After a couple of minutes i had him boatside, took me a few times to get him in the net. i was thinking i had beaten my pb ,but i had only equaled it at 72cm.. After a few yahoo's and some pics i had about a dozen more drifts and picked up 2 more small squire around 40cm, sent them back to grow a bit as i already had plenty of fresh snapper. After that about 8.30am things went very quiet with only a couple of touches, so back to the river to pull the pots. Unfortunatly i only got the one sandy. It was a great morning and hopefully the wind will co-operate for my last week of hollidays next week
Cheers Marty.
