Thread: Bream as Tailor bait?

    Re: Bream as Tailor bait?

Im not a fan of bream as bait. Most fish know them as a 'spikey' fish, and wont touch it, even in strip form. I heard nugget talking about old timers who experimented with small live bream before the legal size came in, and the consensus was - dont bother with bream.

I prefer mullet flesh, its #####. Gets all type of fish, tailor, big bream, jack, etc. Got sweetlip on mullet flesh this week Nth GC.

whats the best way to salt down Bonito?

do u cut it up into strips (ready for the hook) then get heavy handed with the salt? What sort of salt - sea salt or table salt?

Can u still freeze it ?
    just one more cast........

Use coarse salt - get a big bag of swimming pool salt for 10 bucks or so. Yes strips about 1 cm wide, I use. Yes , freezes well, but stays workable cos of the salt.

    Good luck
