cuda's vermin.... wouldn't eat it unless I was starving, and I mean starving!
As for catching them, I suggest trying a gold or silver hard body lure, with some 40lb leader. Pull that through the hole and see what happens.
I've also caught a few Cuda on gold and silver poppers too!

If you're where I think you are, then I used to live in one of the units adjacent.
Used to get smashed quite often. The fish come through those pipes at a great rate of knots and on light gear you're flat pulling them up before they get to the T-junction. It was mostly queenies with the odd trevor and cuda.
They have no depth to run in, so they just goooooooo....
I'd just run some 30lb leader. Once you're on move to the side so they can't get you down behind the lip in the concrete bund.
of course if you're not where I think you are, then disregard all the above ;-)

I went to the spot with Geoff the other day. OMG OMG OMG OMG. The size of that Trev!!!! I haven't seen anything like it this far south! I'd give it 15kg plus. Biggest I caught was a GT of 28kg off South Molle Island, but I could let it run on 37kg standup!!
I'm going to try 14lb fireline with 80lb leader. Had one of the cuda's mouth an sp with a 15kg leader but not hook up. Had to change leader immediately cause of the damage to it. If one of us get it there will definately be a post and lots of pics!!!

A guy caught a 10kg trev in this same area about 8-9 mths ago. He was on a canoe close the mouth of saltwater creek, so the big ones must like this area. He made the tv on nuggets show and on paul burts segment too. The post is still up in reports section somewhere. I seem to remember he called it for a bus, not a fish.....lol.
where is a more exact location (UBD map co-ords) for coombabah cr where this happened? i wouldn't mind having a look around. just for curiosity's sake.

Can you take a boat to the lake or is it too shallow?

I think you can canoe or kayak, but I don't know about boats. Check the Gold Coast City Council website, they should have a list of all boat ramps and if there is one for the lake then you should be able to use it.

hey mate fish that spot often landed a couple about 70cm on 8pd fireline and 30pd leader but lost a bit of gear trying as 4 the trevs seen them but havnt hooked up yet they very funny trevs they spook easy
