Saltiga Rods

Howdy all, Had a look through local tackle shop today and a couple a daiwa saltiga rods caught my eye. These rods felt great in the hand and even better with a reel on. The price of these rods are on the high side. Are these rods as good as the price tag suggests. Does anybody own or have used this range of rods. Am interested in others opinions. The two rods in particular are the 68S-3 ( 6'8" ) and the all rounder 70-S ( 7' ).

Howdy JustQ, Was looking at matching it up with my Daiwa Kaldia Kix 4000 and fishing 25lb braid over it. These two rods are on the lighter side of the range. Would be using it to chase kingies, trevally, Jewies and such. This outfit would be fished using jigs and the larger plastics while having a bit of fun at the same time. The 68S-3 is rated to 15kg line class max so this rod would be my pick.

I did have the Daiwa Catalina Nabura which is almost identical to the Saltiga 68s-3 only it costs about $450 instead of $600 or $700. I had a Certate 3500HD on it with 35lb braid and it makes for a killer combo. Light enough for 1/4 jig heads for plastics and I also used it to jig for Kingfish with up to 200 gm jigs. With that combo you wouldn't have too much troulble with Kingies to 10 kg (my best on it was 8kg). Just out of interest that local tackle store wasn't fishhead was it.

P/F sumed it up mate, i also have the 68s-3 and a Saltiga game 3500 reel spooled up with 30lb, these rods are more powerfull than what you think, believe me once you use a Saltiga you wont go back to your other rods, i now have 3 Saltigas

I looked at the saltiga rods but after a while i went with the shimano jigwrex and find it very good

Howdy again, The tackle shop was indeed Fishhead. These rods looked great and felt it but was a little unsure about how they would perform. For the asking price of $599 i was keen to hear a couple reports before lashing out and buying one. The Daiwa Saltiga Game 3500 would be a great match up however i may need to save a little more if i was to upgrade my Caldia Kix. Will see how this reel goes for a while.

Seeing as though it is Fishead he does stock and sell the Daiwa Catalina Nabura 68 which the only difference for the price was the weight and cosmetics they both perform just as well as each other. With these rods you just gotta be prepared for the rod to bend ALOT with a decent fish, it'll bend right down through the handle when your loaded up. Best part with both of these rods is you can run 7kg drag over them even though they are only a 14 kg rod. Your Caldia Kix should match up perfectly to either of these rods so good luck deciding.

just purchased a saltiga hiramasa 60b nice little light 6 foot o / h rod with a saltiga z 30. ooo yes nice combo but havnt had a chance to use it yet due to the crappy weather and fishing off noosa at the moment. even the charter boys are finding it tough. ill let you know how it goes but i havnt picked up anything like it before. nice up grade from the live fibre and charter special anyway. if ya dont mind lashing out,get one if not put your money towards a saltiga reel and buy a shimano t curve

Howdy All. Thanx for the info on these rods, will be taking a look at the shimano range on the weekend and will compare them to the Daiwa's. Will stick a rod in each hand and load them both up to compare how well they feel. This procedure isn't the same as the real thing but should give me some idea. If only the tackle shop would let you have a trial run first with them out on the water. That would be good.

I'll tell you now Shimano don't have any rods in Australia that come close to being the equivelent of the Saltiga you're looking at or the Catalina I had. The Jigwrex are heavy duty jig rods which I dont think would be to suitable for light plastics.

Have to agree with Plastic - Shimano can not compete against the Saltiga. For a bit of fun though and given what you want to spend you may want to look at something from Smith or Nories. Probably going up again in price but if you are doing the research......
