You's obviously measure your crabs up there different to what we do down here.
Here they have to be 8.5cm from front to back. How are they done there?
Yesterday I seen a split 99% empty shell washed up with the tide, of what would have been a huge crab..The nippers on him were the size of my hand (small womans hand). Seems he might have met a hungry fish.
Well, here in God's country (Queensland) ; we measure 'em from side to side as you point out Squiggle.
Got to admit, never heard of 'em being measured from front of shell to back before; then again, you southerners always have needed to be different and have your own method of doing things
Would have liked to see a photo of whatever that fish was with the crab in his mouth - would have been something to behold!
i remember i caught a crab on fishing line out at shorncliff pier,it was a mud crab and it was massive, it was like pulling in a boat, and when i got it in it had fishingline and barnicles all over it, and we tried to put it in our bucket, but it wouldn't fit in the bucket, even when we tied the claws up, but i dont like crab and threw it away,....... u all hate me now lol, it was one massive crab but i cant remember the size of it, but i have a friend to back it up
I think the biggest I've seen so far was when fishing for Jew...Tried to get it onto the bank but to no avail.
Something different was fishing off the jetty and reeling in a piggy back couple lol.
It's just a crying shame that when you real them in most of them are only holding on by their nippers...shame they wouldn't all get hooked in the mouth..no need for traps then lol.
I think there is only so much you can eat though before getting sick of it, meaning it doesn't seem like a luxury anymore. We've only just pulled ours up again to bring home. Suppose in another month might feel like some more.
