    Threadfin On Lures

Giday All, went for an afternoon troll in the Fitzroy river with my wife deckie on a run in tide, weren't trolling long before my rod loaded up on a nice little threadie. Quick photo and released him to hopefully catch another day, to good to catch just once. Haven't tried one as table fare, but have spoilt my taste buds with reef fish over the years. Trolled for another hour when wifee just had to go one better, a giant threadie leapt clear of the water, with a sizzzzzling run. Thinking she was going to lose the huge fish, she wanted me to take over the fight and promptly handed over the rod to me. After a good hard fight we finally had the huge fish boatside, wifee just about to slide the landing net under him, when a big headshake seen the pink mann's lure fly skywards like a torpedo. Wifee claims i purposely lost her fish cause hers dwarfed mine, (WOULD I DO THAT)

Cleaner fish and different colour to the Brisbane river threadies, but they didn't have to swim past luggage point....

Looks like a Blue Threadfin,as I could only count 8 filiments(4 on either side) and the King threadie has five and are that yellowy colour??

Definately a Threadfin or as they call them up there "King" Salmon. Blueys are different( not as long in the tail and different around the mouth).

Nice threadie mate, if the one you lost dwarfed that one I would have loved to have seen a photo. Sounded like a good session

Giday guys, thanks for your comments, i have caught blue salmon on lures and live bait as well in the same area, next time i will take note on how many filiments they have, as i'm not an expert on threadies but boy i love catching them. Would love to go for a troll for threadies in Brissy, just to see if it were possible to get them on lures, but not being as plentiful as in northern waters, there would be alot more hours between fish.
Hey Nomad 62, would never do it on purpose, cause would have been a trophy photo for the fish album, gee it's good when i do beat wifee when fishing though, cause man she catches some nice fish. Murph 77, spewing threadie got off, cause he was a horse, at least we got a good look at him before he chucked the lure, Sharkbaithoohaha dosn't exaggerate when it comes to the fight of a threadie they go hard, good fun.

Definately a King, not a Blue. If you got a Blue that size I'm pretty sure you'd be a lot happier! . Not all Kings have 5 filaments on each side. I have caught a few Brisbane River Threadies that have 4 on one side and 5 on the other. It's usually only ther Brisbane Threadies that have that Yellowy/Gold colour since they spend most of their time in deeper water rather then shallow like the Northern ones. Plus the water is a lot dirtier.
