We must have been mad!
After 3 bloody cold weeks in London (fish report to come later), i was itching to get back home and wet a line in our 2nd to none place of abode!
A TINN secret Tweed whiting spot was the destination but due to the unstable weather, a late call was made to hit Wello instead. On the water at 5ish to surprisingly calm(er) than expected waters and it wasn't long before we hit the fish! By 8ish, yours truly had a 45 & 49cm Snap in the esky, TINN and i had both been busted off by good fish, and caught numerous throwbacks! Things quietened down for about an hour while we searched through the ever increasing swell and wind. We finally got going again with a steady stream of throwback Squire and Sweetlip and another bust off on my 8lb leader - shredded through as it zzzzzzzzz off into the distance... By 10.30, it was 1m+ and a solid 15-20knots and we were the only mad ones still there. So the 'last drift' call was made and just for good measure, i added another into the esky at 51cm.
Well TINN must have had the sh%ts as his deckie had well and truly outfished him - and he was using 2 rods! As we rounded the leads for the ramp, TINN must have slipped (accidently of course) on the throttle as we hit a wave and he sent me barrelling across the boat within a whisker of getting dunked! The momentum threw TINN out of the drivers seat and he nearly ended up sprawled all over the floor too. Wasn't funny at the time but i'm sure if anyone on the jetty had seen it, they'd still be rolling around in fits! And to top it off, TINN gets the digi out to take a pic and both sets of batteries are flat...
Nonetheless, a very productive morning in the conditions - 3 Snap's 45, 49 & 51cm and a Sweetie 33cm. We caught and returned over 25 Squire, 6 Sweeties, and a couple of Cod and 3 solid bust off's! Fish were caught in all depths from 5m to 2m however the keepers were in the 4m zone. The ole fav 'Threadie Killer' was the SP of choice however the Sweeties favoured the Pumpkinseed.
Take Care T
