Night time luring
Hello all.
I thought I'd have a crack at catching some local Barra(stocked wier) at night.
I have never in my life lured at night before. What sort of lures do you generally use? soft plastics? noisy hardbodies? any tips would be great

Anything you use during the day will work at night. Try throwing some surface lures for a real buzz.

Hi Flex,
I would take the advice of Mr Why-ting,And throw some topwaters. If it's the same location you describe in ya other post,Mostly shallow,It sounds like the perfect place for some surface action.
Try a fizzer or a stickbait...And don't forget ya brown undies...Because no matter how ready you think you are for the strike. It'll scare the $hit out of ya every time.
The underlying spirit of angling,Is that the skill of the angler,Is pitted against the instinct and strength of the fish,And that the latter is entitled to an even chance for his life. Regards, Hardb8.Kickin tails and razin scales since 1979.

shallow diving lures work best at night, doesn't have to be noisy, continuous steady retrieve works best at night. lighter colours like white or silver. cheers scott

My 'Fat-boy Fizzer Poppers' have produced many big Tinaroo barra at night particularly during the full moon or new moon periods using a stop - start retrieve. Colours of black or dark blue seem to be the most effective, probably because the lure can be more easily seen againgt the lighter sky.

One more option that may possibly work is to use glow lures. They are lures that have a glow in the dark paint coat. They also sell the paint for those who may want to paint their own pattern on their own lures. You "charge" the paint by shining light form a torch, a black light, or a flash camera (my favorite).
This is the favorite lure to use to catch the fall-run chinook salmon over here in the midwest US. I don't know if it would work on barra but it may. Just a thought.
Good luck. I hope you catch them.
