Today I came back to the Scarborough ramp only to find a pro net boat in the middle of the two lane ramp cleaning his catch. He was gutting and knocking the heads off a 1/2 dozen or so small sharks and throwing the offal back into the marina. The area around him was litterred with small whiting and a couple of other dead fish were floating around him. I would not be too keen to eat fish cleaned in the waters of a marina and boat ramp. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

the boating and fisheries patrol do police us the same as you,we also get boarded by the water police.if this happens in moreton bay, feel free to pm me the boats symbols and i will pass them on to the relevant person in our union.either report them to the fishos or send me the symbols,if noone says anything this will keep happening!
support your local commercial fisher, its never too late!!
thanks fisher28 but the fisheries patrols that check out the public are not allowed near a pro boat maybe if they have a officer on board who is on pro boat duty ? as for dobbing mate im not in that unless its pretty bad we all love to bag the pros its a fun thing for us fishos but the fact this is how they make a living and its tough going that i can see

I think you will find that the Queensland Fisheries have the power to inspect any boat on the water this includes the pros. They also have the power to confiscate the boat, catch and anything in the boat until they have been taken to court and prosecuted however this is in the extreme, Fisheries like most have a job.
what I can't fathom is that some one who breaks the law in relation to a fishing matter and is fined gets a much more higher penalty than a drink driver or druggy scum bag.

I am a commercial fisherman in north Queensland. As Mark has said, members of the boating and fisheries patrol can board any vessel. Whoever gave you the information that fisheries officers that check the general recreational fishing community can not check commercial vessels has their facts seriously wrong.
I can be boarded at any time by fisheries and boating patrol, water police, or marine parks. Commercial fishers have not got any special privileges over recreational fishers in this matter.
Good fishing to you anyway
