    Re: Northstar GPS/combos

    John,
The rebranding of the navman units as northstar was to increase sales in the US. The northstar design team in the US still designs most of the original northstar models as the 6000i, 6100i, 8000i etc. The 6100i and 8000i are manufactured in NZ but most of the internals(such as main pcb) are main in the US and the head office in Acton still calls the shots with reguards to manufacturing procedures/standards. Northstar is making sure that quality is keep to the highest standards. I should know as i work for both companies.
I don't know anything abou the sale but I hope the new owner puts some effort into improving navmans hardware reliability.

So with improved hardware reliability does this also mean they might change the software base and improve the functionallity as well, especially in firmware and data management?

      Regards, Kerry.

          Runamuck,
The northstar 657 is a value for money unit at $990. Navman Aus will also support the 2 year warranty. I don't know much abou the garmin units but heard they are very good.
