    Re: Northstar GPS/combos

NorthStar is more associated with the US market but now that Brunswick has sold out including selling Navman then I suspect things are about to change?

Lowrance, Eagle, Simrad, Northstar, Navman to name a few brands all under the same banner should do something and certainly improvement with some brands, which is probably long overdue but something really not within Brunswick's area of expertise.

Northstar have been around long long before Navman ever existed, one being a US company and one originated in NZ. These brands are like chalk and cheese, totally different.

Im looking at buying a northstar explorer 657 which replaces the navman 6507. The 6507 retails for about 1500 dollars while the 657 ex US is 990 Aust delivered to your door.

The 5507 and NS550 are reallly nothing like the Ford rebadged Nissans but with Navman and Northstar being owned by the same company then there the similarities and production costs were obviously becoming aligned.

Mavericks were simply rebadged patrols but which ever way one looks at the 5507 is not a rebadged 550 or visversa. Might outwardly look similar and this is what one might expect with keeping mass production costs down but internally they are really not even close.

Even the 5507 screen resolution is 4 times the quality of the 550! In fact there are quite a few differences that totally separate these two apart from simply looks.

    Regards, Kerry.

    Re: Northstar GPS/combos

your getting mixed up people, the northstar 550i is the same as the T5505i navman unit which is still in production because the new T5507 uses the GPS1240 smart antenna and deosn't come out with the internal antenna version. The northstar 657 unit for $990 from the US is good value I think.
