the 4th bearing is in the level wind from memory
my 6500c4 is now a c3 after replacing the bearing with a bush
if the c3 is cheaper I would go with it

hey Guys,
I was looking at getting another abu for all my estuary work and have recently seen a good 5600c4 combo getting around for $179-
i did have a 6500C3 and it copped a beating in saltwater over the years and stood up real well, what i wondered is how the C4 would go in comparison seeing it has
more bearings etc.
can anyone shed any light on this, or does anyone have a c4 which they might give me some pointers on.
any help here is appreciated.
ps: the reason im a bit worried is most of my fishing is done from a kayak so salt spray is imminent

i would but the special is only on the c4 thats why i wasnt sure,
any other advice guys
Yella I've had a 5600C4 and used it solely in salt and really haven't looked after it by washing it down. It is just as good as the first day I bought it.
I've been using my 4600 for the last five years or so and its showing no signs of corrosion or alike. Just the usual wash in fresh water after use and regular oiling has kept it going strong.
looks like il be picking one up tomoz guys
Over here in if only we played cricket as well as the Aussies land we tend to remove the levelwinds and fit a front strengthening bar, i have in my odds and sods box several levelwinds complete with bearings and fitments if any one wants them let me know as all they are doing is taking up space
any more stisfied users here??
any tips on the c4 series
any more tips here guys,
Yella,
Youve had a good run with them previously - cant see why there would be any issues with this model - the bearings would be stainless - at that price u cant really go wrong canu ??!! never had probs with the ABUs ive had , but must say I do look after them and dont fish them beyond their capabilities !!
cheers Cam
The ABU's are great reels for the money. I have two 4600's and two 5600's. They have had a couple trips to Weipa and plenty of impoundment barra.
G'day mate, the ABU 5600C4 is certainly good enough to take on a few saltwater fish; just make sure you WASH the outfit straight after your sea session. I run 20 lb braid and 40 lb leader on the reel.
