Re: Jewless - Richmond River
Hi Mate,
Firstly I dont know the Richmond....
Does it have any bridges you can fish?
I ask this because I have mates down south who are absolutely braining Jewies constantly casting soft plastics along bridge pylons on slack water.
They are catching them in places you wouldnt believe they were there.
In the daytime or night it doesnt matter but they always catch them on the top of the high at slack water or the bottom of the low.
The cast all sorts at them from squidgies, atomic shads and powerbaits.....The 4inch size seems to work well.
Might be worth a shot.
Cheers

I Understand How You Feel Jewie Newie.ive Given The Jew A Few Good Goes Over The Years Now And Am Still Yet To Land A Big One.got A Few Schoolies, but I Think They Are Just One Of Those Fish That Take Forever To Suss Out In A Particular Area, hang In There Mate. Sorry Havnt Fished The Area Much And More To The Point Havn't Specifically Targeted Them.

Mate,
The best thing i ever read about jewies is keeping a log of when and where you fished with what baits.
One thing they like, eddies in the water, so bridge pylons etc but they will down from it and pick the scraps and baitfish that follow it.
Another is the bait, make sure its fresh and well presented. I have only met a few people who actually can get jew reguarly and they are as thorough as fisherman get wit tides and times and moon, bait presentation etc etc etc..
I guess all in all persistance is the key with these fish.
Cheers

Tough going huh JEWIENEWIE? Well if worst comes to worse and you still have no luck before the wifey comes back then you can always take a pic of yourself with your arms stretched out wide and someone can Photoshop a Jewie into the pic for you if you need proof that you weren't wasting the time on the water to your wife. Better luck next time mate. Hope you get the mother of all Jewies the next time you head out.

OK - up past the ferry a couple hundred yards the water is quite deep along the Eastern shore. I won't say the exact spot I fish but its along that deeper section. Get beach worms and bait them on the hook then up the line. Make a worm bait about 40cm long. Fish there on the last couple hours of the run-up at night. Nice long trace to let the bait move around a bit. Good luck.
I've fished Wardell bridge a number of times over the years with live herring and only ever caught sharks and rays. But it does produce good jew at times.

Patience,
You have to be willing to sit/stand around for a few hours with no bites at all. Then bang! Nothing like the scream of that real when you are least expecting it!
Jewienewie,
Shame you didn't go last night, while there were no big ones caught, my sons got one legal one on bait jig while collecting herring and a 55cm one on small baitcaster rod. Fella in boat got a couple too.
One thing we have noticed the last few weeks is that the Bream are really starting to put on condition. As a rule we don't keep these unless they are quite big. But it is looking good for winter when the ones worth keeping (30cm+++) should be around.
