Took the family to Hervey bay for Australia Day w/end. We only managed 1 fishing session. It was a too windy to look at Urangen Pier but the local tackle shop guy told us to head to Eli Creek (not the same one as Fraser Is). We only caught a couple of moses perch undersized but the kids had fun. Were a lot of baby mud crabs around ... some we pulled in on the line would have been near legal if they weren't jennies. The kids had great fun just playing with the crabs around the rocks.
Heard one of the guys who came back from up the creek in his tinnie say he'd caught a couple of good bucks, wouldn't be surprised as it looked like a very fishy creek. Would love to head back there with a tinnie/kayak.
We did get warned not to leave stuff in the car as there were a few dodgy people in the area and the Police did come around while we were there so would make sure everything is secure.
try unweighted pillies in front of the tackle shop on the northern side about 200 meters out just on dark. catch anything from taylor to sweetlip, mackerel, mowong, bream, cod etc.
