Come on someone must have some sort of idea...what would be better a Furuno 585 and a separate GPS or would it be best to go a combo Raymarine unit....
I have a Lowrance X15-MT with 1 KW Trannie plus a Raymarine DS 500..
In the next month or so i hope to be updating both of these units...i was looking at the Furuno 585 with the 1 KW T...anyone got any suggestions on a decent combo unit....and if anyone is interested in my old units then i am willing to listen...Cheers...Mick

I got a combo on my signature and when its time to upgrade, I will be buying separate units...its just too hard to see detail in the screen when it is on spilt screen....
yep, agree with DD.
If the room is there 2 units are the go.
With 2 units it's easier to see.
If one stuffs up you still have something and if you want to update either unit it's not such a hassle or extreme expense.
And the Furuno is good gear as well......
2 units are the go as opposed to a combo unit.
Raymarine only has 500watts power.
If you are chasing the 1kw again, probably the Furuno 585.
I run a furuno fcv620 and a navman 5500i they work fine for my needs if the g,p.s has a problem though i will be looking at the garmi g.p.s map292 i used to have an lcx 15 as well the furuno is a big improvement .....
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
Cheers guys and thanks for your help...the furuno 585 sounds the go for the sounder ...but i will have to do some investigating into a GPS.....need something which will take around 3000 + marks...Cheers Mick
3000 marks? you got any spare around the townsville region?
Sorry Shanos....but no....only down here in the apple isle....
I've checked into the above myself lately and have chatted with the "fish gods"
The 585 is the way to go it gets the votes hands down and you must definitely have separate units. The 1kw addition is an extra that may be a bit of an unnecessary luxury unless you're planning on hitting depth of more than 150M.
The chartplotter issue is another kettle of fish and I'd be considering the Lowrance with a Navionics card for the stuff I do but it depends upon how much you'd like to spend and if it suits your way of working.
Yeah i will go the 1 KW I am often out to 560 m so will need the extra punch....As for a chartplotter money isnt the issue at the moment just want something that you can just go mark and it does it without having to go through stupid menus....
Go The Two Separate Units You Will Only End Up Regretting It If You Get The Combo So Much Easier To Read And No More Changing Screens
I Have Furuno Fcv620 And A Lowrance Plotter You Can Still Wire Them Up To Talk To Each Other
Stuie
IF IT CAN'T EAT A WHOLE PILLY I DON'T WANT IT
I will be going for a furuno 585 with the 1 kw trannie.....how many marks does your plotter hold...and what model no is it...cheers mick
Gotta agree here .... I have a LMS 337 combo ...... while it seems to be a great unit ... I find it just too hard to use in split mode (specially with only a 5inch screen) ..... There is just too much detail (I'll be saving my pennies to buy a separate sounder & use the 337 for navigation ) PS A 8-10 inch screen would be OK in a combo .... NAGG
G'day Mick,
Give me a call when you are ready.
I have fitted the furuno 585 with the 1kw transducer ... very nice unit.
The cost difference between a furono 585 and a raymarine c80 is going to be about 2 grand, in favour of furuno.
The only thing is, the raymarine has the ability to just plug in a gps aerial and radar if needed, where the furuno 585 cant do this ... unless you go to the navnet system which will cost heaps more.
as a separate chart plotter, the raymarine 435 is very good, as is the lowrance range... especially in the colour units.
Cheers
Pete
