Estuary Cod in the Brissy River

On saturday night me and a mate took a few people fishing in the River Just near the story Bridge. I didn't get to fish much as most of the guys didn't have their own gear and I spent most of my time baiting up others and rigging up their lines etc. Anyways, one of the Guys I was with (who could fish) caught this bad boy.

He was about 45cm and weighing about 2kg.

I was stunned to be honest. We were expecting to catch a few bullsharks and catfish, but not something like this - in there!

He caught him on a pilly - on my rod, my reel, my bait....dam it!!! I wish I'd caught him. Oh well. We'll be going back there for sure and see what else is about.

I guess the river really is starting to clean up.

    Cam ,
Have been getting quiet a few cod in the river my biggest 2 have been in crab pots ( both released) there are a significant number around the gateway bridge i have noticed, the run out tides are the best.
A couple of different colours are noticed in my captures from a allmost complete black with blue to purple spots , the other a very pale cream colour with black spots. The last one caught was at Yeronga for abit of fun , very small... Also noted while cast netting at Yeronga i have now caught flounder, flathead, moses perch and one mangrove jack!
The river is certainly looking healthy .

I reckon the river looks more green these days than brown and I often see mullet jumping around the St Lucia reaches. A big improvement!

Cherrald it should be always the "Captain's Rules" when boarding your vessel. BYO rods, reels, tackle, bait etc etc before accepting their boarding passes. Lol
You must be a man of extreme abilities for self control. I don't think I could have sat there watching people fishing with my gear and catching fish. I'd have gone stir crazy. By the way, I am a deckie who pays his way, uses his own gear, and will help wash the boat, clean the catch, and even tow the boat if need be in case you are looking at a deckie upgrade.
