I have been having all sorts of trouble with berkley fireline. I use it for bream spinning, it always loops and tangles when it is new.
However I have recently spooled up with berkley 'crystal' and find it a much improved product. it is heaps more supple and casts a mile. Thats my comments on limited knowledge. Sean
G'day
stick with the fireline, I've never had a problem and it's economical.

I use Varivas ( avani sea bass) and it is the best braid I have used thus far.

I was thinking of the 30lb catagory to chase larger fish like barra and so on.
I think Varivas has a braid strength roughly around your needs.
Google and see

Dont know about best value but Finns is my favourite braid...
fireline is a fusion therfore its a little stiffer that braid. if ya want something nice and soft a good for casting go the nitlon pe braid or daiwa td sensor. both of them are round and have more strands in the braid itself. better than fins, bionic, platil etc. the nitlon and sensor came way out on top for abraision.
The PE would be fine on a 4000 series threadline. It's excellent in the heavier strains like 30lb. It's super finicky on small threadlines in 6lb however, where it's suppleness works against it. Prone to loops, wind knots etc. Hard to go past fireline in the sub 8lb strains, even if it is a bit stiff at first.
Have to agree with most everyone else. I find fireline great up to about 8lb. I put 14lb fireline on my baitcaster for pulling out snag dwellers and I've had all sorts of trouble with it. If you want a cheaper option the blokes at Tackle Warehouse put 300 metres of 30lb dyneema on my 4500 Baitrunner for $30 and it's fantastic stuff. Can't find the spool it came on but its a dark green braid.
Cheers Dave.
Fireline crap Fins or Tuff line is awesome espeially for big fish
I'm no expert, but i've found a true braid better on baitcasters than a fused one like fireline. However, i use fireline on my light spin reels As fishphile mentioned. I also don't mind dyneema for the price.
Hey guys,
I use BIONIC braid on my spin reels and love it ,its a bit on the $$$$ expensive side but i have had no dramas with it at all.
